As promised another new installment of some regular posts that I'm going to get started around here, Get With It. Get With It posts will be a little bit different than my usual vibe, and I hope so much that you like them.
Through this series, I'm going to share weekly tips with you about how to get the most out of your fitness routine. Fitness is something I'm so passionate about, completely my outlet for all kinds of stress. I'd love to share with you what I have found over the years that really works. Also, I have tons of lovely friends in the fitness and health world who have graciously volunteered to share their best bits of information with us. We're all in this together. Staying healthy and being the best you possible is difficult, especially when you are trying to balance careers, family, friends, and everything in between.
So let's get started, with what I believe is the most important rule of fitness after the jump.
My first and number one tip that I've posted about before, find a fitness activity you love. I mean truly ADORE and look forward to, not just something tolerable that gets you in shape. To me, for years, that activity was running, and many days it still is. However, after my move to NYC I found that running outside in the New York winters can literally be impossible. My first winter here I found myself stuck with running in the absolutely disgusting Columbia gym almost every day (as one yelp reviewer says " I would rather be obese and grow a 6th toe than go here again. Working out here feels like being sentenced to hard labor in an 18th century French prison.") I felt like a robot just pounding miles away on the treadmill. I started dreading working out. It came to a point where I was ready to give up working out during the winter months altogether, so I decided to start researching what else was out there. I found Soul Cycle and decided to give it a try. After about 2 minutes, I was completely hooked. Soul Cycle is an experience, not just a workout. They light the room with candles, play all your favorite music, and help you clear your head all while seriously kicking your tail:).
I still love running, especially when it's nice outside, but changing up the routine a bit with something new and fun has meant the WORLD of difference for me in my workouts. I look forward to going to Soul Cycle classes and being able to take that time during the week to push myself to the limit and focus on me feels so good. That's just me though, find something that makes you happy- whether it's running, zumba, yoga, swimming, urban rebounding, or anything in between- and go for it! Really, it will completely change the way you think about working out. You'll be treating yourself to much needed you time, and changing your body in the mean time. It's really a win-win.
I can't wait to share more tips with you, and I'd love to hear your feedback. What work outs have you found that you can't live without? Anything you've been wanting to try? I'd love to hear.
xo.
P.S. Have any fitness questions you want our gurus to answer? Send them my way and we will chat about them in upcoming weeks!

Totally love this...and I am in the mode of getting fit, fit, fit!!! This first tip is fantastic...it is so true that when we find something we love and be passionate about, it makes it that much easier :) So excited to reap the benefits of this series! XO brynn
ReplyDeleteTotally agree! It's impossible to make yourself work out if you hate it. Or at least its a good waste of time and energy to inflict self torture! :) I started out running, then boxed for a while, then back to running, then tried Physique 57, boxed again, and now I'm doing Physique 57 again. I tend to go in spells of obsessive working out and then one day I just am bored and want to do something else. Look forward to more tips and discussion!
